Abstract:

Purpose: Excessive nitrogen use for crop production leads to environmental damage, so nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) needs to be improved. Stabilized amine nitrogen (SAN) (Lono, Levity Crop Science) has been shown to increase quality and yield of several crops. This work assesses the use of SAN for tomato production. Research method: SAN was applied to experimentally and commercially grown tomato plants and compared to several industry standard forms of nitrogen. Plant growth characters and yield were recorded. Findings: SAN was compared to an industry standard (IS) nitrogen fertilizer, and it significantly increased the harvested yield due to significant increases in fruit on trusses M3, M4 and lateral shoots. SAN was compared to several conventional IS fertilizers resulting in significantly increased chlorophyll levels, fruit-bearing trusses and an increased yield, but there was a shorter growth habit suggesting more energy was put towards fruit production and less to vegetative growth. Finally, SAN was applied to commercial processing tomato (variety HZ1662) production where there was a significant increase in the perfect red fruit when compared to the standard nitrogen application regime. Research limitations: Further work could be done with other commercial tomato crops. Originality/Value: Results from glasshouse experiments and commercial production show that SAN increases the yield of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) when compared to IS nitrogen applications.

Abstract:

Purpose: To report a case of Joubert’ s syndrome with alternating skew deviation and lateral skew deviation. Case report: A 18-year-old girl was referred with the chief complaint of abnormal eye movements since infancy. Some degree of oculomotor apraxia was revealed as the girl had difficulties in initiating horizontal saccades and subsequent head thrust. Periodic alternating vertical misalignment of eyes was also evident, known as alternating skew deviation. After 3 to 5 seconds, the vertical divergence of the eyes reversed direction. Gaze to either side also resulted in hypertropia of abducting eye, known as lateral skew deviation. MRI demonstrated hypoplasia of superior cerebellar vermis along molar tooth signs associated with Joubert syndrome. Conclusion: This report shows that alternating skew deviation and lateral skew deviation can be manifestations of Joubert’ s syndrome.

Abstract:

In vitro bud induction and shoot regeneration of Lantana camara L. was investigated using axillary nodal explants. Multiple shoot buds were induced on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with 0, 2, 4 and 8 mg/l of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) or thidiazuron (TDZ) for proliferation and 0, 0.25 and 0.5 mg/l indole-3 butyric acid (IBA) for rooting. After 4 weeks, a maximum number of shoot buds was achieved on MS media containing 8 mg/l BAP and most buds were resulted in 8 mg/l TDZ. The results showed that the maximum length of shoots, internode length and weight were observed in MS media without any growth regulators. Suitable concentrations of cytokinins significantly increased RNA, DNA and protein synthesis and shoot induction. Difference in concentrations of BAP can be under the influence of genetic factors and experimental condition. Very low concentrations of TDZ stimulated the proliferation of lateral shoots in woody plants. Receptor molecules of TDZ had high affinity with this growth regulator. In this research, the highest number of roots was induced in MS media with 0.25 mg/l IBA. IBA is one of the strong PGRs in culture medium for stimulating and increasing the number of roots. IBA increases internal IAA, which is necessary for normal growth of root meristems and final development of roots. One of the effects of auxins is elongation of cells, but root cells need lower auxin for growth because auxin induces ethylene which is a root growth inhibitory.

Abstract:

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important microorganisms that can colonize the human body and cause various types of human diseases by secreting virulence factors. The lateral flow assay (LFA) is one of the well-known commercial immunoassay methods that provides a high sensitive and rapid approach to monitoring infectious agents in blood, serum and urine. LFA has been considered as an ideal immunochromatographic test. Methods: Anti Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB) antibodies were conjugated to 20 nm colloidal gold nanoparticles and were applied in assembled lateral flow layer. Suitable reagents were prepared and used in silver enhancement method. We designed a single immunochromatographic test strip to detect SEB. Results: In this study, the smallest amount of SEB identified using sandwich LFA method was 10 ng/mL. We also established a "silver enhanced method". Silver could improve the sensitivity detection of the test 100-fold greater than the previously mentioned sandwich LFA. Conclusion: Regarding the high sensitivity of the new method for detection and measurement of SEB (0. 1 ng/mL), this strip test offers great promise for a rapid technique instead of the other diagnostic SEB tests in laboratories for the first time.

Abstract:

Purpose: To compare the results of lateral rectus resection and medial rectus rerecession on the patients with residual esotropia at Emam Hossein Medical Center, since2004 to 2005. Patients &Methods: This double blind controlled clinical trial study was performed on 25 patients with residual esotropia by consecutive selection. After signing of consent form by the patients or their parents, cyclorefraction, best corrected visual acuity, deviation, near point of convergence, medial rectus function were measured by our orthoptist. On table of operation, if FDT was positive, MR ReRec. and if it was negative, both methods were done by random selection. 12 patients were operated with rerecession of medial rectus (cases) and 13 patients were operated with lateral rectus resection (controls). Patients were re-examined-after 1.5 months follow up by the same orthoptist who did not know the type of operation. The results were analysed by T, Fisher exact and X2 tests. Results: 15 (60%) of patients were female and 10 (40%) were male. The patients were matched as their spherical equivalent; best corrected visual acuity, degree of deviation and near point of convergence. The success rate of the case and control groups were 67% and 54% respectively, but the difference was not statistically significant. Each millimeter of MR ReRec. has corrected 7.5 pd and each millimeter of LR Res. Has corrected 2.5 pd of residual esotropia. Medial rectus mild underaction were seen in 50% of cases, but only 17.5% of them showed increased near point of convergence. There were no muscle slippage or lost, exotropia and scleral perforation. Conclusion: Considering the results of this study, lateral rectus resection can be substituted with medial rectus rerecession in special situations. Medial rectus underaction was relatively mild and would not produce cosmetic problem.

Abstract:

Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy and the second cause of cancer –based death due to cancer in women. 99m Tc- Methoxyisobutylisonitrile (99m Tc-MIBI) is a radiopharmaceutical which has been used initially in myocardial perfusion studies, however, since nearly one decade its role in detection of some maligncies such as breast cancer has been proven. This investigation was carried out to assess the diagnostic value of 99m Tc-MIBI scintimammography in detection of breast cancer and advantage of prone lateral view compared to common anterior views in women with breast mass in the nuclear medicine department of Taleghani hospital. Materials and methods: In a descriptive study, 15 women with breast mass Results: Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values of 99m Tc-MIBI scintimammography for breast carcinoma in supine anteror view were 75%, 100% and 81% respectively. With changing the patient's position to prone and taking the lateral views from breasts, these values arised to 91%, 100% and 93% respectively. Conclusion: It seems 99m Tc-MIBI scintimammography is a valuable diagnostic modality for detection of breast cancer particularly in breasts with architectural distorition due to previous biopsy or surgical manipulation, however, sensitivity and accurcay of the test can be raised to higher values by using the prone lateral view.
